Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Brussels’ STIB Christmas tram will run through the city during the holiday season. The tram is decorated with festive lights, and Santa Claus will appear on select rides.

As VRT News reported, Brussels has started running its annual Christmas tram to bring the holiday spirit to the city. The tram is decorated with lights and festive ornaments. It began today, Dec 1, 2025, and will travel through several streets.

The initiative has been held for several years. It attracts attention from both daily commuters and visitors. Many people say riding the decorated tram is a unique experience. It gives a special feeling during the holiday season. For daily tram passengers, the Christmas tram breaks the usual routine.

“The tram is decorated with Christmas lights and red and green lights. The voice that announces the next stop on the tram will be replaced by a Christmas choir,”

explains Laurent Vermeersch of the STIB/MIVB.

What makes Brussels’ Christmas tram a holiday attraction?

From December 1st, 2025, to January 4th, 2026, Brussels’ Christmas tram will run on 5 MIVB/STIB lines. These include lines 9, 18, 19, 82, and 92. The tram is decorated with lights and festive ornaments. On December 17th, 2025, and 20th, 2025, Santa Claus will join the tram. He will hand out sweets to passengers.

A pop-up store will open at the Brussels Roger metro station on December 11th, 2025. The store will offer a range of original gifts and toys. Shoppers can find models of trams and buses. The store will also feature items made from recycled materials from the STIB, including products from the Missile and Telegraph collection.

Brussels has been running its Christmas tram for several years as part of the city’s holiday celebrations. In 2023, the tram operated on line 92 from December 13th to January 5th, decorated with lights and festive ornaments. Passengers could meet Santa Claus on board and enjoy candy canes and Christmas carols. In 2024, the tram returned on December 11th and will run until January 10th, covering several lines including 9, 18, 19, 81, 82, and 92.
