Borsbeek (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Borsbeek redesigns Robianostraat, Grensstraat, and Fort Illstraat intersection until 19 Dec 2025. Detours affect drivers and De Lijn; Robianostraat may reopen 22 Dec, 2025, for safer traffic flow.

As GVA News reported, the intersection of Robianostraat, Grensstraat, and Fort Illstraat in Borsbeek, near Deurne, is being redesigned to improve safety and traffic flow. The work will continue until Friday, December 19, 2025.

The intersection will be completely restructured. A safer bike path will be added along Fort Illstraat. A green median strip will be created on the Deurne side of Robianostraat. 7 parking spaces will be added in the middle of the street for cyclists and pedestrians.

How will Borsbeek and Deurne roads change with new bike lanes and traffic upgrades?

Traffic is affected at the intersection of Robianostraat, Grensstraat, and Fort Illstraat in Borsbeek, near Deurne. Drivers from Deurne to Borsbeek can pass the construction zone via Frans Beirenslaan (R11). Drivers from Borsbeek to Deurne must follow a detour along the R11 and Herentalsebaan. Public transport to Deurne is also rerouted. De Lijn passengers are asked to check the company’s website for updates.

Temporary changes include 2-way traffic on Posthoevestraat, with a parking ban on one side. Pedestrians can still access homes in the construction zone. Robianostraat towards Deurne will reopen in the week of Monday, December 22, 2025, restoring normal traffic and public transport routes.

The intersection of Robianostraat, Grensstraat, and Fort Illstraat in Borsbeek has long caused traffic and safety problems. Plans to redesign it were first proposed in 2018, but approvals and planning delayed work. Construction began in early November 2025.
