Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Brussels Airport, operator of Zaventem, led by CEO Arnaud Feist, applied for an environmental permit in 2025 for the €3.5 billion Hub 3.0 project, expanding terminals, an intermodal hub, a hotel, and a green boulevard by 2032.
As VRT News reported, Brussels Airport, which manages Zaventem Airport, has applied for an environmental permit to carry out major works in the coming years. The project, presented in April 2025, was under the name “Hub 3.0.”
It includes expanding the departure and arrival halls. A new hotel will be constructed for travellers, and a green boulevard with a park will be added. Brussels Airport aims to finish all parts of the project by 2032 at the latest.
What changes will Hub 3.0 bring to Brussels Airport Zaventem by 2032?
Brussels Airport has announced its major “Hub 3.0” project, the largest investment at the airport in 30 years. The plan goes beyond the developments of the 1990s, including the current terminal and Pier B. The project will modernise and expand airport facilities. The project will also improve connections between trains, buses, trams, bicycles, and private vehicles.
An open public consultation will be open until October 5th, 2025. An environmental permit has been applied for, and residents in Kortenberg, Machelen, Steenokkerzeel and Zaventem can comment, ask questions, or object to the proposed environmental permit. A digital information session is scheduled for Thursday, September 11th, 2025, at 6:00 pm.
Preparatory works have already started. A new drop-off zone has been built behind the Sheraton hotel on the departure hall level. The airport states this will enhance traffic flow and passenger convenience.
Brussels Airport originally opened in 1958 and has expanded steadily to become Belgium’s principal international airport. Throughout the decades, it has experienced several major expansions. During the 1990s, the airport finished the existing terminal and Pier B, enhancing passenger amenities and capacity. The airport upgraded its runways as well.
