Ypres (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A 28‑year‑old Ypres woman survived a severe crash on the Noorderring, hitting a parked semi‑trailer. Fire Captain Dirk Vandekerckhove called it “a miracle.”
Late on Sunday night, July 26, 2025, just before 1 a.m., help was called to the Noorderring in Ypres after a crash. It took place on the road section located between the intersection at Pilkemseweg and the ramps to A19, which is on the stretch of road where trucks frequently stop.
A 28 – year – old woman from Ypres was driving down that stretch of road. She drove into the back of a parked semi-trailer. Her vehicle slid underneath the trailer, which tore the front of her vehicle off and crushed the whole passenger side.
How did a 28-year-old woman survive a crash into a parked truck in Ypres?
The Westhoek fire crew got to the scene fast, thinking they would need to cut the driver out of the wreck. The woman had already crawled out of the smashed car before they arrived.
“The driver was very lucky. It’s a miracle she came out like this,”
Said Fire Captain Dirk Vandekerckhove.
He explained that the passenger side was crushed so badly that no one was sitting there. The car was ruined beyond saving, and the truck’s back was badly damaged. No other cars or people were involved in the crash.
Police from the Arro ypres zone said the driver had not been drinking and only had minor injuries. She was treated at the scene and later taken for more checks. Officers are now looking into how she lost control and hit the parked truck.
Earlier this year, a similar crash happened on the N8 near Veurne when a car slammed into the back of a parked lorry in the early hours of the morning. The driver, a man in his thirties, also survived with only minor injuries, though his car was destroyed in the impact. Emergency services said at the time that the outcome could have been much worse.
