Denderleeuw (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Train service Denderleeuw–Geraardsbergen stops for 3 weekends (Infrabel works). NMBS provides replacement buses (10 stations). Allow for longer travel times; plan extra time for connections. No specific person mentioned.

As VRT News reported, starting this weekend, May 31, 2025, train travel between Denderleeuw and Geraardsbergen will be suspended for 3 consecutive weekends. This is due to major maintenance work being done by Infrabel, which manages Belgium’s railway system. They’re working on several things to keep the trains running safely.

One of the main tasks is to reinforce the ground at several level crossings, making sure they are stable for both trains and cars. They will also be doing maintenance on the overhead power lines that supply electricity to the trains and replacing parts of the tracks, like old rails and sleepers. To improve safety, especially at night, they’ll also be upgrading the lighting at some of the train stations.

Will NMBS buses replace Denderleeuw–Geraardsbergen trains?

Because trains won’t be running, the train company, NMBS, will provide buses to help people get between the stations. These buses will stop at Denderleeuw, Iddergem, Okegem, Ninove, Eichem, Appelterre, Zandbergen, Idegem, Schendelbeke, and Geraardsbergen.

Officials mentioned that the buses will let people travel, but the trips will take longer than usual because of traffic. NMBS has tried to match the bus times with the train times at the stations where people can switch, but they should still plan for extra travel time, especially on weekends when there might be more traffic, to make sure they don’t miss their connections.
