Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – In the wake of a series of destructive Russian attacks on Ukrainian towns and villages Sunday night, Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy, urged the international community to increase pressure on Moscow.

Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has spoken out about the recent extensive Russian missile attack on Ukraine that occurred during the night of May 24-25.

On the social media platform X, she criticized the aggression that led to civilian deaths, including juveniles.

“Last night’s attacks again show Russia bent on more suffering and the annihilation of Ukraine. Devastating to see children among innocent victims harmed and killed. My thoughts are with the families today,”

Kallas expressed.

She emphasized the importance of the international community stepping up initiatives to stop Mosocw’s aggression.

“We need the strongest international pressure on Russia to stop this war,”

Kallas also said.

How did Russia’s latest strikes impact Ukrainian civilians?

Overnight, the Kremlin conducted its most extensive aerial assault on Kyiv during its three-year conflict, striking the city and surrounding regions with missiles and drones for the second consecutive night, despite both sides concluding a significant prisoner swap.

Officials reported that at least 12 people, including children, were killed across Ukraine, while dozens more sustained injuries. Moscow has escalated its airstrikes on Kyiv as global pressure increases on Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire recommendation.

The overnight assault on Sunday occurred even with the largest prisoner exchange of the war taking place, representing a rare instance of collaboration in a harsh conflict that shows few signs of concluding.

How is Kallas calling for increased us action on Russia?

A few days ago, the European Union, through High Representative Kaja Kallas, called for robust action from the United States against Russia unless Moscow agrees to a total and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine.

While speaking after the Foreign Affairs Council at an informal meeting on May 20, 2025, Kallas expressed that Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire over sixty days ago, but Russia is ramping up the attacks and “playing games.” Kallas insisted that the only option now is to ramp up the pressure on Russia to come to the table and negotiate in a serious manner.
