Retie (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A 63-year-old man died in Retie after his tractor overturned while mowing grass in the Zwarte Nete. Emergency services could not save the victim.

At approximately 18:45 on Monday, the emergency services responded to a sad accident at Hodonk in Retie, Antwerp. A tiny tractor tipping over in the Zwarte Nete stream killed a 63-year-old man who was using it to cut the grass.

He might have wound up under the lawnmower, however the specifics of the mishap were still unknown on Monday. The sixty-year-old could no longer get assistance.

Nearby Mayor Patrick Geuens (Nieuw Retie) was on the scene shortly after. According to Patrick Geuens, the accident occurred approximately 100 meters behind the victim’s residence.

“The man was mowing grass there on Monday near the Zwarte Nete. A friend who lives a bit further away went to look and saw the overturned tractor lying in the Zwarte Nete. The driver of the tractor had already died.”

The uncabinted lawn mower might have ended up in the stream by driving too near the bank’s edge. But more research is needed to find out how the incidence could have occurred. When the accident happened, no witnesses were there.

What safety measures can farmers take to prevent tractor accidents in Antwerp?

By keeping operators from being flung off or crushed, tractors with ROPS and seatbelts significantly lower the chance of fatal injuries during rollovers.

To prevent falls or runovers, always start and run the tractor from the operator’s seat.

To prevent crashes or overturns, keep an eye out for obstructions in the tractor’s path, such as power wires, ditches, cars, and tree limbs.

Tractors should not be driven across uneven terrain, up steep slopes, or close to ditches, embankments, or holes where there is a greater chance of tipping.

To keep the tractor stable and stop rear overturns, don’t overload it or its equipment, and make sure the drawbar is hitched correctly.

Since tractors are typically built for a single operator, adding more people raises the possibility of accidents and falls.
