Knokke-Heist (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Knokke-Heist is upgrading its sewer system in Zoute, switching to separate pipes for rainwater and wastewater, with a new pumping station at Oosthoekplein. The project, costing €35 million, will last until 2029.

As VRT News reported, Knokke-Heist is working on a project to improve its sewers, focusing on the Zoutelaan area. They are switching from a combined sewer system to a separate one. Rainwater and wastewater will flow in different pipes. Officials mentioned that it also lowers the chance of sewers overflowing when it rains a lot.

They are building a new, more efficient pumping station at Oosthoekplein. This new station will replace the old ones at Jagerspad and Spaanselaan. They mentioned that the upgrade is important to support the growing population and development in the area. It makes sure the water system can handle more water as the town expands in the coming years.

How will Knokke-Heist’s €35m sewer project impact Zoutelaan?

According to officials, the work on Zoutelaan is tricky because of several issues. The old pipes are deep underground, so they have to dig a lot, which might cause problems. The project also has to deal with protected areas, maybe because of the environment or history.

They mentioned that there are also gas, electricity, and communication lines underground, so they have to be careful not to damage them. This will help prevent water pollution and ensure the system can handle future growth. The town leaders see this work as important for a more sustainable and climate-friendly future.

The town of Knokke-Heist says that these problems are needed to build a better sewer system. The town leaders admit that the work will bother people and businesses for a while. However, they say the new system will be strong and ready for climate change.

They mentioned that this new system will help with current water problems and prepare the town for more rain and other environmental issues. The project is also designed to protect the environment while improving the area.

The Zoutelaan construction will last until 2029. The project will cost about 35 million euros. It will take a long time because they have to dig deep, work around protected areas, and be careful with existing utility lines. Even though it will take a while, the town is sure the new sewer system will be excellent.

They mentioned that it will handle more people, stop water pollution, and prevent flooding. This project is part of Knokke-Heist’s plan to be sustainable and ready for climate change, ensuring the town can grow and protect the environment.
