Bredene (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Over 20 beach cabins were severely vandalised in Bredene overnight, causing significant damage. Gregory Goes of the Twins water sports club confirmed the incident; police are investigating, and no suspects have been identified yet.
As reported by VRT News, a member of the Twins water sports club, Gregory Goes, discovered extensive damage at the beach in Bredene, a municipality in the province of West Flanders, Belgium, early on Monday, May 5, 2025. At least 20 beach cabins were severely damaged in what Gregory described as a “really big” act of vandalism. These cabins are a vital part of the beach infrastructure.
The team had finished their work on Sunday, May 4, 2025, and everything was in good condition then. The damage, which Gregory believes occurred either Sunday evening or overnight. While vandalism occasionally occurs on the beach, the scale of this destruction was unprecedented in Gregory’s 7 years of experience in Bredene, leaving him deeply disheartened by this damage.
Who vandalised over 20 newly installed cabins in Bredene?
The beach cabins in Bredene were recently installed, as the team had only been working on the beach for a few weeks. Gregory expressed his disappointment, stating that while some cabin damage is expected, the extent of this incident was unprecedented. He mentioned that the damage not only delayed their work but also dampened the spirits of the team, who had put in considerable effort to improve the beach for the community.
It’s not yet known if anything was stolen during the vandalism at Bredene beach. Gregory said the team is talking to the people who rent the cabins to see how they were affected. Besides the water sports club cabins, some private cabins were also damaged. The owners of these private cabins will come to see the damage themselves. The police have already been to the beach to investigate, but they haven’t found any suspects yet.
Gregory is worried about the money the club might lose if they can’t find who did the damage. He said the club doesn’t have insurance for this type of damage, so they will have to pay for it. The damage includes fixing the wood and locks on the cabins, which will cost a lot. He mentioned that the repairs are adding up quickly, making the situation more difficult.
