Why did 1.3 million people visit the Belgian coast in Easter 2025?
According to the officials, most of the people who stayed overnight during Easter were from Belgium. About 65% were Flemish people. They always like to travel in Belgium during school breaks. French-speaking Belgians made up 20% of the overnight stays.
Their schools were still on break during Easter. They mentioned that the rest of the overnight stays were from people who live in other countries or from other groups in Belgium, like the German-speaking community. They said that many people visited Belgium during Easter, which is good for the tourism industry.
Officials mentioned that more people went to the coast for just one day during the Easter holidays in 2025. There were 20% more day trippers than the year before. More than 1.3 million visited the coast for a single day. Saturday, April 12, 2025, and Saturday, April 19, 2025 were the peak days. Each of those days was visited by around 125,000 individuals.
According to Westtoer, which keeps track of tourism in West Flanders, it was sunny almost 10 hours a day. That is 3 hours longer than the Easter break in 2024. He said that the fine weather improved the appeal of the coast and drew people out for short breaks, a walk along the beach, and to cafes.
