Kortenaken (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – De Zorghoeve in Kortenaken rescued a neglected Border Collie, a dog from Lubbeek and 2 abandoned cats from Hageland. Marc Dekeyser leads care. Animal welfare is investigating both cases.

The De Zorghoeve animal shelter in Kortenaken, a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, Belgium, has taken care of neglected animals. A Border Collie, the dog from a house in Lubbeek, was found in a very bad condition. Its fur was matted and dirty, with poop stuck in it. It hadn’t been washed or brushed in a long time.

The dog smelled bad, like waste and dirt. The dog was kept inside a crate that was too small for it. Marc Dekeyser, from De Zorghoeve, said it was a terrible situation. The pictures of the dog in the crate show how badly it was neglected.

Who rescued a neglected dog and 2 abandoned cats in Hageland?

The Border Collie was taken to De Zorghoeve, where it got the help it needed. The staff washed the dog many times to get rid of the dirt and matted fur. They also groomed the dog, cutting its fur.

They took special care of the dog’s paws, which were dirty and hadn’t been cared for. They mentioned that the dog looks much better now. It’s like a different dog. Marc Dekeyser said the dog is now getting better, both physically and emotionally, because of the people who rescued it.

Animal welfare officials are investigating what happened to the Border Collie. They want to find out if the dog’s owner should be punished for neglecting the dog. The officials will decide if the dog can go back to its owner or if it needs a new home. They want to make sure the dog is safe and happy. The dog will stay at De Zorghoeve until the officials make a decision.

2 Cats were found locked in a cage near a glass container in Hageland. Somebody dropped them off there, but left them some food, water, a litter box, and a scratching post. Officials added that although the individual left them some things, it’s nonetheless illegal and dangerous to leave behind animals.

They said that the cats don’t have microchips, so it’s hard to find their owner. De Zorghoeve is searching for the individual who abandoned the cats and ensuring the cats’ safety. They state that if one is unable to care for their animals, there are other ways to assist them, such as calling an animal shelter. Abandoning them in a cage along the road is never acceptable.
