Sint-Pieters-Woluwe (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The CEO’s private secretary at Goodyear Tire remains incarcerated following murder charges. The Brussels council chamber served as the decision-making body for this matter. Police arrested the woman last Friday for possessing murder evidence against her boss’s wife. An unknown individual wearing a face mask killed the woman in mid-March inside her Sint-Pieters-Woluwe apartment.

The personal assistant serving the CEO of Goodyear will stay in jail because authorities see her as the main person suspected of killing her boss’s wife. Mid-March brought a fatal stabbing attack against the woman while she was home in her Sint-Pieters-Woluwe apartment by someone wearing a face mask who remains unidentified. Law enforcement apprehended the individual during their Steenokkerzeel raid on Friday, and this detention continues.

The victim arrived at her Sint-Pieters-Woluwe apartment on Roger Vandendriesschelaan at about 8 p.m. on March 17 when she encountered a masked person who might have driven her inside before stabbing her. The victim’s husband found her dead body when he got home because emergency responders had established her death at the crime site.

Police investigators found high-value jewellery and watches valued at tens of thousands of euros to be completely gone from the apartment.

What are the crime statistics and trends in Sint-Pieters-Woluwe and Brussels?

Sint-Pieters-Woluwe in Brussels stands as an affluent municipality that shows fewer violent crime occurrences than other Brussels districts. The Belgian Federal Police recorded 16,578 violent crimes and 42 homicides in 2022 throughout the Brussels Capital Region, while reporting a modest uptick from past years’ statistics.

Sint-Pieters-Woluwe preserves its status as an affluent municipality through its low violent crime rates despite its increased vulnerability to burglary and theft of high-end possessions.

Home invasion rates in Brussels rose by 7% during 2023 compared to 2022, and criminals specifically aimed their attacks at high-value properties. Research shows that violent burglars use facial masks in 23% of crimes recorded in recent times. Homicide investigations in Belgium attain a conviction rate of about 68% as they depend heavily on forensic evidence and surveillance footage.

Belgian homicide investigations usually result in arrests of suspects who are not related to the victims’ households because close violence-related cases account for just 12% of all 2022 homicide incidents. Most suspects experience lengthy pre-trial imprisonment because the judicial process requires holding defendants for 6–18 months leading up to their trial.

The high-profile nature of this case could potentially quicken judicial deadlines, but previous local corporate executive homicide trials from Uccle required over two years to lead to court proceedings.
