Tongeren (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Peter moved to Tongeren and is renovating the old Stations Buffet at Stationsplein 1 into Perron P, a catering business. He plans to open next Wednesday, April. 16, 2025, but it still awaits an official address.

Peter has transformed the old station buffet into a catering business.  Inside, there are 20 seats and a larger reception hall that can hold 30 people.  Peter also wants people to enjoy the outdoors, so he’s adding 50 seats on the terrace.

He mentioned that this way, the Station Buffet can be a place for travelers to take a quick break and for locals to relax and socialize.  Peter worked hard to make this happen, and he hopes the community will love the new space.

“It has to be a place that exudes coziness and where people can meet. That’s the most important thing for me,”

Says Peter.

“I’m not planning on making a lot of profit. People have to be able to eat and drink here for a reasonable price.”

When will Perron P open its doors in Tongeren?

Peter already scheduled a monthly book presentation, and he’s thinking about having other events too, like product launches and live music performances.  Peter also hopes to stay open later, with happy hours once a week, so people can come together and socialize. He wants the Station Buffet to be a lively place where people can meet and enjoy themselves.  He believes that the Station Buffet can be a real hub for the community.

Peter wants to help the community beyond his business.  He’s planting a garden with fruit and vegetables for the neighborhood. He’s already planted an apple and pear tree. He might also add a petanque court so people can play games and enjoy the space.

Peter is busy getting everything ready for the grand opening of Perron P, but it’s not clear if he’ll be finished in time.  He only has one week left to finish everything before the opening next Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Peter is working hard to make sure everything is ready, and he hopes to welcome people soon.

“The station building of Tongeren has the address ‘Stationsplein 1, ‘ but some apartments on the square also have this number as an address,”

Peter explains.

“As long as I don’t get my number, I won’t be able to open my business. The city knows about it, but after 2 months, there has been no progress in the case. I hope to hear something from the city next week.”

Peter moved to Tongeren and saw a building that had been empty for 3 years.  It was the old station buffet, a place where people used to get food and drinks at the train station.  Peter asked the NMBS, the company that runs the trains in Belgium, if he could use the building.  The NMBS said yes.

The building was in bad shape; it was dirty and empty.  Peter worked hard for many months to fix it up.  He cleaned the building and made it look nice again.  He used his imagination to make the building special.  He wants people who live in Tongeren and people who are traveling through the train station to like the new building.  He hopes they will enjoy the changes he made.
