Arschot (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – In Aarschot, illegal trash dumping occurred in Rillaar, including a mattress and bed wood. The waste manager was puzzled, as free disposal services exist. Scherpenheuvel also faces dumping. Mayor Kid Peerermans reacts.
Someone dumped a bunch of trash in Aarschot this weekend, ruining the area. The trash was found in the Rillaar neighborhood, along the Herreboschvoetweg. The trash included a mattress and pieces of wood from a bed, which the person in charge of waste called
“half a bedroom.”
Officials mentioned that this is annoying because the city offers free ways for people to get rid of things like that. People can bring up to 300 kilograms of wood to a special place for free, and they can also get rid of mattresses for free. So it doesn’t make sense why someone would just dump this trash.
Why are people dumping trash in Aarschot and Scherpenheuvel despite free disposal services?
According to the officials, illegal dumping not only makes the environment look bad, but it also shows that the person doesn’t care about the things the city has set up to help people throw away their trash properly. The city offers free ways to get rid of big items, but some people still choose to dump their trash in the wrong places.
People in Scherpenheuvel are upset about some trash that was dumped illegally near the Groenhoef. Someone found a pile of trash along a dirt road, and the mayor is very unhappy about it. Mayor Kid Peerermans said that this kind of thing doesn’t belong in the nice natural areas of the town. The police are investigating the garbage to determine if they can unearth any evidence, such as a scrap of paper with an address, that could assist them in determining who discarded the garbage.
Aarschot is attempting to prevent trash dumping illegally through the use of cameras that travel around. They know where some places are where dumps usually happen, and they are setting those up so that they can capture those involved. They’ll have to pay a massive fine if caught.
The city wants to make sure people know that they’ll be punished if they break the rules about trash. In some cases, the city might even make the people who dumped the trash pay for cleaning it up.
