Ghent (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Freya Van den Bossche is the new leader of Vooruit Ghent, replacing Joris Vandenbroucke after his resignation. Frederik Sioen joins her, focusing on culture and community. Rudy Coddens was the interim leader.

Freya Van den Bossche is the new leader of the socialist party, Vooruit, in Ghent. This is a new start for the party after a time of change. Hannelore Van den Bossche wants Ghent to be a city where everyone feels welcome. She wants it to be fair and caring, where everyone is valued. She is working with Vooruit to make this happen.

Frederik Sioen is joining her. He will help lead the movement within Vooruit Ghent. Sioen is known for his work in music and activism. He wants to make politics more active and connected to people. Vooruit will focus more on culture and social events.

How will Freya Van den Bossche lead Vooruit Ghent?

Vooruit Ghent believes that the city belongs to everyone. They want to benefit everyone and not only the people who have helped them. They want to represent everybody in the city, irrespective of social class, age, or economic status. They want to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to succeed and be heard.

There was trouble last year, when Vooruit and the N-VA formed an alliance but socialist fans weren’t too fond of it. It resulted in difficulties, and Joris Vandenbroucke, leader of the party in Ghent, resigned. Vandenbroucke was important to the city government, but he couldn’t stay after the agreement was rejected.  This left Vooruit Ghent without a leader, so they had a temporary leader until they could find a new one.

After Joris Vandenbroucke left, Rudy Coddens took over as the temporary leader of Vooruit Ghent. Codden is an experienced politician and helped the party stay working until they found a new leader. Freya Van den Bossche is the new leader. Vooruit Ghent has a long-term leader again.
