Ghent (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Bar Bricolage in Ghent’s Muide district, previously owned by Ghelamco and now Jan De Nul will stay open for at least 2 years under a new collective, including Het Spiker, Marimain, and Afsnis.
Bar Bricolage, a well-known cultural venue in Ghent‘s Muide quarter, is in for a significant transformation. The location, famous for its inventive recycling of waste materials, has been purchased by construction firm Jan De Nul from the Ghelamco group.
According to officials, in a controversial proposal, the new owner intends to build a residential neighbourhood with more than 300 residences and a marina.
In response to neighbourhood concerns, the site has been temporarily made open to local initiatives, allowing events and entrepreneurial activity to take place while rehabilitation plans are finalized. Bar Bricolage, alongside Chinastraat, a well-known venue for parties and performances, has become an integral part of the city’s alternative scene.
