Lede (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Kateliine De Corte’s line-focused performance in Lede, inspired by lke Gers and Nick Hullegie, explores order versus freedom. During the Day of the Academy, De Corte walked 1,000 steps to engage the public with the lines, part of Lede’s 1,000-year celebration.

The art academy of Lede, Erpe-Mere, and Wichelen shared news about a new project before it began. According to officials, when the white lines appeared in public, many people were confused about where they came from. The project has been mentioned on social media.

Katelijne De Corte created the performance and was inspired by artists Ike Gers and Nick Hullegie. She focused on creatively using lines. She mentioned that these lines were not just for show; they encouraged people to think about the difference between order and freedom.

What role do lines play in Lede’s anniversary art?

According to authorities, the performance was a mix of art, play, and freedom. It made the audience think about how rules and creativity can work together. By interacting with the lines, De Corte asked people to see how strict boundaries can change or disappear through art.

They mentioned that the installation invited everyone to join in and feel the balance between order and spontaneity. De Corte created a space for the audience to explore the limits of artistic expression and find meaning in the mix of rules and freedom.

“With her creative play of lines, she challenges the boundaries between rules and play. A performance in which art, play and freedom meet,”

Katelijne De Corte says.

On Saturday, February 8, 2025, Katelijne De Corte walked 1,000 steps on the street during the Day of the Academy. She mentioned that this was part of her performance to involve the public and highlight the lines in Lede. Katelijne De Corte said that they will stay visible in Lede for a few more weeks, allowing residents and visitors to think about the work and see it in different ways.
