Antwerp(Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Police discovered a woman in critical condition with stab wounds along Halewijnlaan in Antwerp’s Left Bank district on February 4, 2025. Hospital emergency responders transported the woman to treatment, where she is in critical condition.
The Left Bank’s Halewijnlaan reporter discovered a seriously injured woman with stab wounds on Tuesday morning, February 4, 2025. The Antwerp police verified the HLN report about the incident.
According to Wouter Bruyns, spokesperson for the local police,
“Shortly before 8 o’clock, someone found a seriously injured woman outside on the Halewijnlaan, on the Antwerp Linkeroever. She probably has stab wounds.”
The wounded woman received urgent emergency treatment before doctors hospitalised her in critical condition at the medical facility.
The case receives an expedited investigation because it involves severe injuries to the woman while authorities remain unaware of both the reason behind the assault and who carried it out. The stabbing incident in Antwerp joins a series of recently reported violent crimes, which began with a 31-year-old man getting injured critically on Reinaartlaan.
Has Antwerp faced similar incidents recently?
The number of violent crimes in Antwerp has increased significantly in the last few years, particularly due to several stabbing attacks throughout the city that led to heightened public safety worries. A stabbing happened near Antwerp Station in November 2023 when a man was assaulted but managed to chase down his attacker before being wounded. Belgian police investigated this attempted murder.
Federal prosecutors instituted a new investigation in January 2025 of historical crimes, including the Brabant Killers case, because Belgium continues to battle violent offences throughout the country. The Dendermonde Nursery attack from 2009 represents a significant past case that caused several deaths and multiple injuries.
