Zottegem (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A gas cylinder explosion in an apartment on January 18, 2025, at 5:30 am injured a man with severe burns. Authorities confirmed this accident.

This morning on January 18, 2025, emergency services received a call about an explosion in an apartment just before 5:30 AM. Firefighters arrived quickly and managed to stop the small fire. However, the explosion caused serious injuries to the man who lived there.

He had severe burns and was taken to a burns center for urgent treatment. Even though the firefighters acted fast, many people are still asking what caused the explosion and where it came from.

What caused the gas cylinder explosion in the Apartment?

A gas cylinder was found in the apartment, which has caught the attention of emergency services. The firefighters said there were no appliances in the home that needed gas, making the gas bottle’s presence strange. Investigators are now trying to find out why the gas bottle was there and how it exploded, as this is still unclear.

The public prosecutor’s office has completed its review of the explosion and found that it was an accident. Because of this, they will not hire a fire expert to look into it any further. Their decision means there is no evidence of any crime or bad intentions.

Even with the strange situation of the gas cylinder in the apartment, authorities believe this was not planned. Therefore, they are treating the case as an accident instead of a criminal issue.

The investigation will now look into how the explosion happened since there is no sign of bad intentions. The prosecutor decided to focus on helping the injured man get better and checking safety issues to stop similar accidents from happening again in the future.
