Another well-known figure who passed away in 2014 is Walter De Buck, a folk singer famous for ‘t Vliegerke, and he played a significant role in reviving the Ghent Festivities in the 1970s. Will Ghent celebrate Walter De Buck’s anniversary with a joint singing event?

De Vos and De Buck were remembered together at a city festival after they passed away, with their songs often played in the city center. Now, some people on social media want to organize a joint singing event on December 21, which is the anniversary of De Buck’s death, but no one has started planning it yet. Musician Wim Claeys, who was a friend of De Buck, likes the idea and remembers performing with him at his last show in 2014.

People are planning a singing event at Walter De Buckplein, named after the folk singer. This place is known for the Ghent Festivities, which De Buck helped revive in the 1970s. The group Trefpunt wants to hold a concert on his death anniversary and show old films, but it’s unclear if there will be singing. The city center will be busy with the Winter Festival from December 5 to 31, and no official request for the event has been received yet.
