Brussels (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The European Union Delegations in the State of Qatar, KSA, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman inform the launch of the 15th Edition of the Chaillot Prize for the Promotion of Human Rights in the GCC Region.
The Prize praises local civil society organisations, public or private organisations, as well as individuals for their actions in promoting general awareness of human rights and the freedoms of vulnerable groups in the GCC region. According to the official sources, the last date for presenting applications for this year’s edition is 7 November 2024.
What are the Eligibility Criteria and conditions for applicants?
As stated by the EU, local civil society institutions, private or public organisations as well as individuals who have been engaged in the field of Human Rights, are eligible for the Prize. Civil society organisations and private or public institutions have to be found and legally registered in one of the GCC countries. Applications submitted on behalf of a third person must include evidence that the candidate gave his/her permission beforehand.
The Prize will be granted to applicants from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the State of Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates for continuous actions, campaigns or schemes, as well as for lifetime accomplishments. Candidates may submit applications for a specific activity, campaign, project or lifetime achievement. The call is also unrestricted to candidates who have submitted applications at earlier editions of the Prize, had they not acquired an award.
Submissions are to be submitted to the European Union Delegation in Riyadh. Should there be any tribulation in transmitting directly to Riyadh, applications can be presented via EUDEL in Abu Dhabi, Kuwait City, Doha, or local EU Presidencies in the GCC that will assure forward transmission to the EU Delegation in Riyadh.
Applications will be assessed based on the written material delivered. Support materials, including publications, newspaper articles, etc. are welcome.
