Tram T2 derails in Ghent: No injuries, investigation underway

Ghent (Brussels Morning Newspaper): A tram on line T2 derailed on 16th October at Burgstraat and Rabotstraat in Ghent, causing service disruptions. No injuries occurred, and De Lijn is investigating the incident. Marco Demerling emphasized safety and a thorough investigation will follow.

A tram on line T2 in Ghent went off the tracks on 16th October at the corner of Burgstraat and Rabotstraat, near Sint-Elisabethplein. This happened in a sharp turn that has a lot of traffic. No passengers were injured, and there was no serious damage to nearby buildings. However, tram services in the area are stopped for now, causing some trouble for commuters and pedestrians.

What caused the tram T2 derailment in Ghent? 

De Lijn has sent teams to the site to find out why the tram went off the tracks and to help put it back on. They are checking for damage to the tram and the tracks. It’s still unclear what caused the problem, but it might be due to weather, the tracks, or a mechanical issue. The area is closed off, and other transport options are being arranged for passengers affected by the delay.

According to Marco Demerling, a spokesperson for De Lijn, there were no injuries, but the tram driver was upset after the incident. He promised that safety is very important and a full investigation will happen. The situation is investigating closely, and more updates will come as the technical teams work to get everything back to normal.
