Anderlecht (Brussels Morning Newspaper): Recent shootings near the Aumale metro station in Anderlecht have raised safety concerns. Mayor Fabrice Cumps announced increased police presence, traffic restrictions, and improved street lighting to combat drug-related violence.

In response to several violent incidents near the Aumale metro station in Anderlecht, including shootings linked to drug trafficking, the local government has announced new measures to improve safety. Mayor Fabrice Cumps confirmed that traffic restrictions will be implemented on Rue du Souvenir and Rue de la Vérité to limit access to drug-dealing areas. There will be an increased police presence and more surveillance cameras installed in the area to help curb the violence.

What are the latest developments in the Anderlecht shootings near the Aumale metro station?

The local government plans to improve street lighting to increase safety and make peace officers more visible in the area. They considered a ban on certain individuals from entering but decided it was too strict because of the nearby metro station. Local police are also working with judicial authorities to speed up the processing of related cases in the neighborhood.

The plan is mainly to stop people who drive to buy drugs. They’ll put stuff on the roads to slow down customers and dealers in Gedachtenisstraat and Waarheidsstraat. This will start happening soon. More cops are already in the area, and people will see city guards more on the streets. The local police are also talking to the courts to speed up dealing with cases from the neighborhood, according to Cumps’ chief of staff in La Dernière Heure.

More security cameras will be installed to discourage drug buyers. The city has also banned certain activities in Peterbos, but this does not apply to Aumale because it’s a metro station, and controlling the flow of people there would be too inconvenient for regular travelers. Officials noted that the shooting at police officers crossed a line and called for a response from the federal government. The area around Aumale is not included in the 15 hotspots identified by the Brussels Regional Security Council.
