Bruges (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Howest University is constructing a new campus in Bruges, accommodating 5,200 students by September 2024. The project costs approximately 45 million euros and emphasizes sustainability and innovation

Howest University is making important changes, a key moment in its history. The school is building new buildings and fixing old ones to create a better place for learning. These updates will help support more students and improve the experience for everyone at the university.

What innovative features will Howest University’s new campus in Bruges include to enhance learning and community engagement?

Howest University is renovating its buildings to create modern spaces that support their innovative teaching methods. The goal is to encourage teamwork, creativity, and new technologies, helping the university become a leader in higher education in Flanders. The new building has seven floors and includes a large auditorium that can hold almost 500 people, which will be used for university events and available for outside groups. This design aims to benefit the local community and strengthen ties with regional partners.

It has been said that the building also has a rooftop terrace that gives beautiful views of Bruges and the surrounding area. From up there, people can see as far as Zeebrugge, which offers a special look at the landscape. The new campus is designed as an ecosystem, featuring a green area that connects all the buildings with a boardwalk over a marsh pond. This space provides students with a quiet place to relax and breathe fresh air, promoting creativity. Its location is advantageous, as it is directly accessible from Bruges station. Next spring, the Sint-Jorisstraat campus will close, and all students will be moved to the new campus, which has construction and renovation costs of approximately 45 million euros.
