Lommel (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Lommel’s municipal app recently malfunctioned, causing around 1,000 residents to receive duplicate tax and fee bills. Mayor Bob Nijs acknowledged the issue and assured residents that they don’t need to pay again. The city is working on a fix and will refund any double payments made.

The city of Lommel, which is working on improving its digital services, recently had a problem with its municipal app. Because of a technical issue, many residents got duplicate digital bills for taxes and fees they had already received. These extra bills showed up in their e-boxes, confusing whether they needed to pay again or if there was a problem with their accounts.

How is Lommel addressing the issue of duplicate bills sent to residents?

The city has acknowledged the problem and is working to fix it, reassuring residents that they don’t need to make any extra payments. It has been said that this situation shows the difficulties that come with moving to digital services, pointing out the need for ongoing improvements to make sure everything works well and is easy to use. Lommel is taking steps to solve the issue and improve the digital experience for its residents in the future.

The city of Lommel is upset about a problem with its app that accidentally sent out invoices again. Mayor Bob Nijs mentioned this issue and said the city wants to make things easier for residents with digital services. The app was designed to help people manage city tasks online easily. However, there was a “start-up error” when the app launched, which led to many residents getting duplicate invoices for taxes and fees. Mayor Nijs acknowledged the problem and assured that the city is working quickly to fix it. Their main goal is to solve this issue quickly to regain trust in the digital system and make things easier for those affected.

All the people who got double invoices will receive a letter saying it happened. If anyone paid the bill twice by mistake, they will get their money back. The city is still checking how big the problem is, but it looks like around 1,000 homes got and paid the same bill two times. They are now working on a strong fix to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Mayor Nijs said it was a technical mistake, and they are sorry about it. They find it very annoying and are committed to making sure it doesn’t happen again.
