Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Last night on 4th September, crucial 1,000-volt copper cables were stolen from Infrabel, disrupting train services between Brussels and Gent-Sint-Pieters. Repairs are underway, but travel times have increased by 20 minutes due to detours.

Last night on 4th September, some important copper cables were stolen from Infrabel, which is in charge of the railway. The theft was noticed around 3 a.m. According to Thomas Baeken, a spokesperson for Infrabel, the stolen cables were 1,000-volt cables needed to power the railway signals. These signals are really important for keeping trains safe and managing their movements properly across the network. The theft of the cables is a big problem because they are essential for the electrical systems that control railway signals. Without these cables, train services can be disrupted, which can cause delays and safety issues. Infrabel needs to act quickly to replace the lost cables so that train operations can return to normal and the safety of the rail network is maintained.

What impact will the copper theft have on Brussels-Gent-Sint-Pieters Train services?

It has been said that because of the theft, direct trains between Brussels and Gent-Sint-Pieters on the fast line are not running right now. All trains on this route are being sent to the classic line instead. This means they have to take a longer route through Aalst and Denderleeuw, which adds about 20 minutes to the travel time. This change means that passengers traveling between Brussels and Gent-Sint-Pieters will have longer journeys. They might also have to make extra transfers or deal with delays since the trains are taking a longer, less direct route.

After the recent theft that affected the fast line between Brussels and Gent-Sint-Pieters, a repair team was quickly sent to check the damage. Their job is to fix what was broken and get the line back to normal. This includes looking for any damage and making sure all repairs are safe and meet the right standards. It has been said that the quick work of the repair team is very important to reduce the disruption and help get services back to normal. They are focused on fixing the problem as fast as they can to shorten the longer travel time and restore good connections between the two cities.
