The Week of Belgian Fashion will happen from October 12 to 19, 2024, in Hasselt. On 1st September the city gave fashion lovers a sneak peek with a special fashion show that turned the streets into an open-air runway. Twenty-four local boutiques displayed their autumn collections, showing off the latest fall styles that mix elegance and practicality. Models walked along the sidewalks wearing trendy outfits, showcasing the variety of Belgian fashion. The event highlighted the creativity of the city’s fashion scene, featuring cozy outerwear and stylish layers for the cooler weather. It was a great opportunity for the public to see and enjoy these new styles up close, making fashion fun and accessible for everyone.

What role do city officials play in Hasselt’s fashion week?

To make the event even more special, several city officials joined the models on the runway, showing their support for the occasion. Their participation highlighted the strong community spirit of the fashion week, connecting local leaders with the creative world. The aldermen wore trendy outfits from the boutiques, making fashion feel relatable and fun for everyone, not just industry professionals. Even though it was very hot, and both models and officials were sweating in their stylish clothes, the energy was high, and everyone was excited for the official Belgian Fashion Week. The event celebrated Hasselt’s lively shopping scene and showed how fashion can bring people together, setting the stage for a memorable week in October.

Six young Limburg designers were chosen as ambassadors for this year’s Week of Belgian Fashion, showcasing their creations on the runway. Ambassador Marlene Madou expressed the desire to highlight their Limburg roots, emphasizing that the region is often underestimated in the fashion scene. Matteo La Rosa noted the challenges of the competitive fashion world but highlighted the strength of their friendship and support for one another. Mayor Steven Vandeput joined the runway wearing designs by ambassador Jordy Arthur, sharing that it was a special experience for him. He praised Hasselt as a fashion city and mentioned that events like this help reduce empty shops by attracting more visitors, ultimately benefiting local businesses.
