Brussels feminist sound walk celebrates womens impact on urban culture

Brussels (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Kimia Studios and Parcours Street Art Brussels have collaborated to create a feminist walking tour 4.2 km long An accompanying podcast lasts 90 minutes. In addition to the walking tour we outline womens views on urban culture by looking at their paintings and hearing what they think about them in an interview. By listening to various soundscapes we emphasize how this music serves as carrier spirits visible to people passing by in public places. In their painting sound and words these ordinary creative women are not voiceless after all.

The feminist walk is a joint product of Brussels Parcours Street Art and Kimia Studio. It includes a tour of murals in Brussels as well as a podcast about women participants listen to sent out by Kimia Studio which will involve walking from here on 90 minute podcast Art Feminism Urban. The participants will go on a 4.2 km journey with a female narrator dictating it all.The aim is to concentrate on women in the city story and evidence their presence in public spaces.. The walk will present graffiti artists and street art architects work urban planners planning all done to benefit women local historians past poets famous musicians such as Marlene Deitrich and modern classicists who play vital roles as well. Through musical tracks interviews, soundscapes, poetry and voice overs the elements of a rich and diverse experience aim to offer participants insights into various aspects of urban culture and creativity.

What artistic tributes and themes will the feminist walk highlight in Brussels?

At this walk muralist Alba Fabre Sacrián was painting tribute to the late Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman in her art. Haunted Fitore Alisdóttir Berisha’s fresco will mirror the impact of femicide telling the sad story inch by inch through eye catching visual storytelling. In the walk artist Medianeras produced a beautiful piece of mosaic titled Diversity the union as more than the sum of its parts. It is to celebrate the 20th anniversary since homosexual marriage became legal in Belgium. There are only three languages available French, Dutch and English. The plug and play  podcast is also available through different streaming platforms at zero cost or with a QR code. Participants can follow this itinerary without maps or GPS devices. It will be easy for each of you.
