It seems that politics in Belgium is putting more pressure than ever on the EUs exports.
After the court in Brussels ruled it looks like €207 million worth of expired anticoronavirus items will not be thrown away by the Belgian authorities. A Belgian government attempt at disposal of such equipment is outlined in reports from the weekly Le Vif.published .The health ministry of defending a decision to dump the items while sidestepping any confrontation with Medista former distributor and sole stockist for government requirements.
Why is a Belgian court halting disposal of €207M in expired COVID supplies?
The health ministry has been holding back on paying a big bill from Medista for removing products meant for disposal ever since they changed service providers. They are currently in a recovery process and dealing with legal actions regarding the payment of various other invoices. Medista claims that the disputes cannot be resolved because there is no independent and thorough inventory of the stock to be destroyed. Medista went to court urgently to stop the products from being destroyed until a proper inventory is done. The court agreed with Medista and stopped the Belgian state from destroying the products until at least 29 August. They will decide then if an independent expert should check the goods. The government will have to hold onto the products until the inventory is done. This process might take months and cost a lot of money.
