Polish seasonal worker drowns in farm water basin in Ypres

Ypres (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): A 54-year-old Polish seasonal worker drowned while swimming in a farm water basin in Ypres. Emergency services recovered his body after extensive search efforts. An investigation is underway.

A 54-year-old Polish seasonal worker was having a good day with his coworkers at a farm on Grote Branderstraat in Vlamertinge. Since the weather was good they decided to cool off in a water basin at the farm where they worked. It was a break from their tasks and they enjoyed the refreshing swim to relax. Things took a serious turn when the man was found struggling in the water. Emergency services arrived quickly and tried to help him but he was declared dead at the scene. Local authorities are now looking into what happened and the reason for his distress.

What caused the drowning of the polish seasonal worker at the Ypres Vlamertinge Farm?

On 11th August at around 4:00pm after the 54-year-old Polish man didn’t come back up while swimming in the water basin at the farm on Grote Branderstraat in Vlamertinge emergency services were called. Several diving teams from the fire department and a drone team were sent to look for him. They searched the area carefully using the drone to check the water and the nearby surroundings. Around 8:00pm after several hours of searching the divers found and brought the man’s body out of the water. The incident is now being investigated and authorities are trying to figure out exactly what happened that led to the drowning.
