Ostend (The Brussels Morning Newspaper): Unions plan strike on August 14 over unsafe conditions, unpaid overtime due to faulty system, demand urgent fixes for coastal tram and bus services.

The unions ACOD,ACV and ACLVB in the coastal and Westhoek regions are planning a strike on August 14, 2024. They’re not happy about the safety problems and bad working conditions that have been bothering employees. Stan Reusen from the ACOD is leading the unions and is worried about an employee facing aggression recently pushing for improvements at work. This strike will mess up the coastal tram and bus services, affecting people living there and tourists. The unions want better safety and working conditions for their members. They are to make things better at work.

What prompted the unions’ strike in Ostend and Westhoek?

The strike set for August 14, 2024 by the ACOD, ACV, and ACLVB unions shines a light on important problems faced by employees in the coastal and Westhoek regions. One major issue is that workers aren’t getting paid for overtime because of troubles with a new computer system. This mix-up means employees aren’t receiving the extra pay they deserve for their extra hours adding to their unhappiness. The unions are concerned about ongoing issues with the coastal tram tracks making it tough for drivers to run the trams safely. Stan Reusen from the ACOD says that the necessary track repairs have been ignored for too long causing problems for both employees and passengers. It has been said that these troubles not only make the tram service less efficient but also leave passengers unhappy showing the urgent need for fixing these problems.

If things aren’t sorted out by August 14, 2024, the unions say all drivers will go on strike together. This strike could really mess up the coastal tram and bus services impacting people living there and visitors. The unions are serious about striking to fix these problems and make sure their members have good working conditions and operations.
