Anderlecht (The Brussels Morning Newspaper) – October 12, 2026 – The 2026/27 UEFA Europa League league phase began on 16 September 2026 and is scheduled to conclude on 28 January 2027. Thirty-six clubs are competing across eight matchdays, with each team playing eight different opponents. The opening round produced notable victories for Juventus, Crystal Palace, Benfica and Union SG, while the second matchday is scheduled for 15 October. The complete schedule includes the remaining fixtures through January, with results updated as matches are played.

The 2026/27 UEFA Europa League season has entered its league phase, bringing together 36 clubs from across Europe in a competition that will determine which teams progress to the knockout rounds. UEFA’s published schedule sets out the fixtures and confirmed scores from the opening matchday, alongside the remaining matches through January 2027.

The opening round took place on 16 and 17 September, with 18 matches played across the two days. Juventus recorded the biggest winning margin, defeating N.E.C. Nijmegen 5-0, while Crystal Palace opened their campaign with a 4-0 victory over Lech Poznań. Benfica won 2-0 away to Milan, and Union SG secured a 3-0 victory against Viktoria Plzeň.

The league phase continues on 15 October, followed by matchdays on 22 October, 5 November, 26 November and 10 December. The final two rounds are scheduled for 21 and 28 January 2027. UEFA lists all kick-off times in Central European Time, with most matches scheduled for 21:00 and selected fixtures starting at 18:45.

How Does the 2026/27 Europa League League Phase Work?

The competition features 36 clubs, each playing eight matches against eight different opponents. The fixture list combines home and away games, giving each team four matches at its own stadium and four away from home.

The league phase draw took place on 28 August 2026. UEFA divided the clubs into four seeding pots based on their club coefficients, with each team drawn against two opponents from each pot. The draw rules also restricted clubs from playing opponents from the same national association and limited the number of opponents from any other single association to two.

The format means that teams compete in one common league table rather than separate groups. Results across all eight matchdays determine the final standings and progression to the knockout stage.

The league phase is scheduled to finish with 18 simultaneous matches on 28 January 2027. The knockout phase play-offs will follow in February, before the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals. The final is scheduled for 26 May 2027 at Stadion Frankfurt in Germany.
