A man attacked another man with a knife in a supermarket in Turnhout, Belgium. The attack happened on Friday afternoon March 21, 2025. The attacker, 62 years old, cut the victim, 54 years old, many times. The victim was injured badly.

The police arrested the 62-year-old man who stabbed the victim. He was brought to court on Saturday, March 22, 2025, and the judge charged him with trying to kill someone. The police don’t know why the man stabbed the victim yet.

They’re still trying to figure out if the 2 men knew each other or if the stabbing was random. The suspect is in jail and will go back to court on Tuesday March 25, 2025. The court will decide if he should stay in jail or not.

Why did a 62-year-old attack a man in a Turnhout supermarket?

According to the owner of the Cyprus supermarket, the attack had nothing to do with his store. He’s upset about people online saying bad things about his business because it’s foreign-owned. He says his store has been there for 25 years and nothing like this has ever happened before.

He wants people to know that the attack wasn’t about his store and that it could have happened anywhere.  He says the attack was just a bad thing that happened, and he hopes people don’t think badly of his store because of it.

On Friday, March 21, 2025, the supermarket owner and his brother heard the noise and saw the attacker hitting the victim. They stopped the fight. They kicked the knife away so the attacker couldn’t use it.  Police came and arrested the attacker. The victim was taken to the hospital.  He was injured.

If I could save the victim’s life, it was worth it.

The supermarket owner who helped stop the attack was also injured. He got stabbed in the arm while he was helping the victim.  He didn’t realize he was injured until after everything was calm. The owner needed stitches for the wound on his arm. He mentioned that he didn’t regret helping, and he knew he had to stop the attack from getting worse.

Neither of the men were our customers. We didn’t recognize their faces either. The footage shows the victim walking in the suspect immediately following him and the attack starting right away. Without any exchange of words,

says the owner.
