Keerbergen (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – The 5th Keerbergen Schatt at Gemeenteplein drew record visitors. The winter bar earned €70,000, shared with local clubs. Alderman Maikel Iliaens confirmed a 6th edition this year.
As VRT News reported, the 5th edition of Keerbergen Schatt, in the province of West Flanders, Belgium, has come to an end after a month of activities at Gemeenteplein. The ice rink and winter bar attracted a record number of visitors this year. Many residents and visitors gathered in the town centre throughout the event.
As the installations are now being dismantled, Alderman for Events Maikel Iliaens (Keerbergen Voor U) said the event has grown again. According to him, Keerbergen Schatt has seen an increase in visitors for the 5th year in a row and continues to expand each winter.
What made Keerbergen Schatt’s 5th edition draw record visitors and €70K profit?
The winter bar also brought in more revenue than before. A different local club ran the bar each day. In total, the bar generated around 70,000 euros in profit. The municipality will pay out this amount to the participating clubs. The money will serve as an extra subsidy to support local associations and their activities.
Alderman for Events Maikel Iliaens visited the ice rink at Keerbergen Schatt almost every day during the 5th edition. He met many visitors who came to enjoy the ice rink and the winter bar. Some travelled from nearby towns like Aarschot, Rotselaar, and Sint-Katelijne-Waver, while others came from further away.
Iliaens said this proves that Keerbergen Schatt is now known beyond the municipality. The alderman also said the event helps strengthen the local community. Welcoming so many visitors. Iliaens confirmed that there will be a 6th edition of Keerbergen Schatt this year.
Keerbergen Schaatst began in December 2021 with a winter event held at Gemeenteplein in Keerbergen. Keerbergen Schaatst was a successful event, drawing more visitors each year and drawing in support from neighbourhood clubs.
In April 2025, due to the popularity and potential impact of the event in the community, the municipal council unanimously approved a 3-year contract for Keerbergen Schaatst to remain on the calendar. The 5th edition of Keerbergen Schaatst took place between December 6th and January 4th, 2026.
