Ronse (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – In Ronse, 2 old trees, a Christ thorn and an American sweetgum, were deliberately damaged with a chainsaw. Alderman Jan Foulon expressed sadness, and the city seeks help to find the culprit.

City workers in Ronse, province of East Flanders, Belgium, were very upset when they found 2 big trees in the city park had been damaged.  The trees, an old Christ thorn and an American sweetgum, had been in the park for many years. Officials mentioned that everyone was surprised to see them damaged. Many people in the town are sad and angry about what happened.

Alderman Jan Foulon said,

“It’s unbelievable that these trees, which have been here for so long, have been so badly damaged.”

Who destroyed the trees in Ronse’s Malanderpark?

According to Alderman Foulon, the damage to the trees wasn’t caused by nature or an accident.  Someone did it on purpose. He said that heavy equipment was used, maybe a chainsaw.  The trees were cut very badly and can’t be saved.

The city is looking into what happened and asking people to tell them if they saw anything suspicious. The trees are destroyed, and people are worried about the safety of public places.  The city is thinking about making the park safer so this doesn’t happen again.

According to the officials, the trees were a Christ thorn and an American sweetgum, and they were very important to the park. They mentioned that the person who did this used a chainsaw to cut the trees at the bottom. This stopped the water from going up through the trees, so they died.  The trees couldn’t be saved.

Alderman Jan Foulon said,

“It’s a shame.  Those trees were part of our park.”

The city’s workers decided that the trees would have to be removed. The city is asking people for help to find out who did this. They mentioned that the trees were special to the community, and people are sad that they are gone. The city wants to keep its parks safe for everyone.

“We find this very unfortunate; deliberate vandalism is a very regrettable matter,”

Foulon concludes.
