Handzame (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – On February 14, 2025 afternoon, a car crash at Aarsgat involving a young woman and a man caused injuries and significant traffic delays. The accident, possibly due to visibility issues, is under police investigation.

An accident happened on February 14, 2025 afternoon at Aarsgat, where Staatsbaan meets Aarsdamstraat. A young woman was waiting for Staatsbaan to turn left into Aarsdamstraat. A man was driving toward her from Kortemark. Just before he reached the intersection, another car with a trailer turned into Aarsdamstraat.

According to officials, the young woman may have thought she had enough time to turn, or something might have blocked her view of the oncoming car. As she turned, the car from Kortemark crashed into her vehicle.

What caused the Aarsgat crash and traffic jam?

The crash caused the young woman’s car to spin out of control. It stopped facing the opposite direction. The man’s car went off the road and hit a hedge. Both drivers were injured, but it was not clear how badly they were injured.

Their cars were completely wrecked. Emergency services arrived to help the injured and clean up the debris. Police started to investigate what caused the accident.

According to officials, the crash caused big traffic problems. The road was only one lane during the busy evening time. This caused long traffic jams in both directions, with cars stuck for a long distance. According to authorities, motorists had to wait patiently while services fixed the issue and resumed traffic flow.
