Ninove (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Ninove’s train station will be demolished and replaced with a modern reception building. Minister Jean-Luc Crucke confirmed NMBS will oversee the project, addressing youth loitering and improving commuter facilities.

As VRT News reported, Ninove’s current train station will be demolished to make way for a new reception building. Officials said it no longer meets the needs of modern passengers. Federal Minister of Mobility Jean-Luc Crucke (MR) confirmed the demolition plans after a parliamentary question from Vlaams Belang MP and Ninove councillor Werner Somers. The NMBS (Belgian Railways) will carry out the work, scheduled for the second half of the current legislative term.

Why will Ninove train station be demolished and rebuilt by Crucke?

The train station in Ninove will be redeveloped with a new reception building that includes modern amenities.

“The existing station building will be completely demolished and replaced by new reception facilities, including a waiting room, restrooms, and secure bicycle parking,”

says Crucke.

The station area has been a topic of concern in Ninove, particularly during the previous municipal elections. Authorities have raised issues about youth loitering, which sometimes causes public nuisance near the station. Police have carried out large-scale patrols to keep order.

Ninove’s train station, built in 1978 and mostly vacant since the ticket offices closed in 2021, will be completely demolished. Federal Minister Jean‑Luc Crucke (MR) confirmed the plan on 17 September 2025.

Belgium has seen similar train station projects before. Gent-Sint-Pieters station was renovated between 2007 and 2022, with longer platforms and a new bus station. In Mons, the old station was replaced by a completely new building designed by Santiago Calatrava, which opened in late 2024.
