Five new special committees met for the first time and elected their managing boards on Wednesday. All were created as part of the drive to keep pace with the constant challenges facing European Union member countries and their citizenry. The list of the new committees and their respective responsibilities follow.

The Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence in a Digital Age (AIDA) — created to track the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the EU economy and the labour market. The Committee, composed of 33 Members, is chaired by Dragoş Tudorache (RENEW – Romania).

The Committee of Inquiry on Animal Transport (ANIT)  — constituted to check compliance of EU Member States and EU Companies with the EU Regulation on the protection of animals during transport. The 30-member Committee is chaired by Tilly Metz (Greens – Luxembourg).

The Special Committee on Beating Cancer (BECA) —  established to coordinate the latest European research on cancer and create an adequate EU legal framework to facilitate the fight against cancer. Comprises 33 members, chaired by Bartosz Arlukowicz (European People’s Party, Poland).

The Sub-Committee on Tax Matters (FISC) – set up to coordinate the fight against EU financial crimes and tax fraud. Has 30 members and is chaired by  Paul Tang (Socialists & Democrats, The Netherlands).

The Special Committee on Foreign Interference in all Democratic Processes in the EU (INGE) – charged with evaluating and preventing outside interference or acts by other states or international actors to influence or subvert democratic processes of EU member states and to fight disinformation that undermines EU democracies. Made up of 33 Members and chaired by Raphaël Gluksmann (Socialists & Democrats, France).
