CAG to tap AIIMS, IITs for report card of govt schemes

NEW DELHI: The comptroller and auditor general has adopted a different yardstick to evaluate performances of government schemes and expenditure. It recently tied up with external experts such as the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), a government think tank, to assess performance of district hospitals in UP.
In a pilot project on its first outcome audit, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) engaged a lady doctor from the NIPFP to conceptualise and finalise terms of reference for the audit of the district hospitals. "To know if the hospitals are less infected, we collected swab samples from each of these hospitals twice a day and got it tested for the level of microbial contamination on ward surfaces," CAG Rajiv Mehrishi told TOI.
