Its for govt to take call on POK action: General Rawat

AMETHI: Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat on Thursday said it was for the government to take a call on whether any action is to be taken regarding Pak-Occupied Kashmir, the “retrieving” of which was described by Union minister Jitendra Singh as the “next agenda”.
When asked about Singhs remark and whether Army will play a role in such an event, Gen Rawat told TOI: “This is a government decision. Whatever call the government takes — we are one of the instruments of national power; so whichever instrument of national power the government wants to exercise, the choice lies with the government.”
Gen Rawat was in Amethi ahead of the Armys recruitment drive in November. Army plans to recruit nearly 1.5 lakh soldiers from Uttar Pradesh in this drive.
The Army chief held a meeting with the Amethi MP, Union women and child development minister Smriti Irani, to finalise the venue for the recruitment drive.
The Army chief said efforts were being made to maintain peace in J&K, whereOriginal Article
