Shocking footage shows the moment a binman narrowly avoids a van mounting the pavement to overtake a rubbish lorry.

The man was loading a bin into the back of a lorry when the impatient driver goes up the curb.

As the van sped passed it knocked a bin out of the binman’s hand and carried on regardless down the pavement.

The video, taken in September last year, but only posted on Facebook on Thursday, shows the man at work in Ashford, Kent.

He appears to be injured after the near-miss and begins to rub his shoulder.

Phil Bovis, Biffa’s general manager for Mid Kent, said: ‘Our collection crews already do a challenging job which shouldn’t be made more dangerous by the behaviour of impatient drivers.

‘Biffa wants all its staff to go home safe and sound at the end of each working day.’

In 2016, Biffa launched a campaign to reduce the type of aggressive driving that puts workers at risk.

Figures from the company revealed that waste collectors across the UK were facing around 30,000 dangerous driving incidents every month.

The majority of these are unreported as ‘putting up with dangerous driving as part of the job’.

Biffa lorries are fitted with 360 degree cameras to help capture footage of these incidents, which have helped prosecute dangerous drivers.
